FAQs about elder law attorneys/ A-1 Home Care Studio City

Elder law is a subsection of legal work that is gaining popularity as the population ages. These types of lawyers are specialists in their fields, and deal with issues such as guardianship of elders who are unable to care for themselves, living wills, and Medicaid/ health care issues. Today, A-1 Home Care will be discussing the topic of living wills.

Your living will (health care declaration) is the place to write out what you do and do not want in terms of medical care if you are unable to speak for yourself. This is in the case that elders won't be able to communicate during the time of incident. You don't need to become a medical expert to complete your document, but it will help you to become familiar with the kinds of medical procedures that are commonly administered to patients who are seriously ill.

Living wills ask you whether or not you want to receive life-prolonging treatments at the end of life. Such procedures typically include:
  • transfusions of blood and blood products
  • cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • diagnostic tests
  • dialysis
  • administration of drugs
  • use of a respirator, and
  • surgery.
A-1 Home Care encourages elders to educate themselves on elder laws and rights.
